One Fabric, Five Ways

Untitled 7

Lining fabrics, they are kind of like that pair of shoes that can make or break an outfit. We would never specify a curtain without a lining as they have a number of benefits that can save you money in the long run.

Linings are a fantastic way of helping your window furnishings to last longer as they protect your fabric from our harmful UV rays. Linings also provide added insulation, privacy, light control, and they make your curtain fabrics look better – less washed out and much stronger in colour.

Using a coloured lining in behind a gorgeous sheer fabric gives you the opportunity to drastically change how the overall curtain will look. Coloured linings can create incredible contrast to the face fabric, or create a more subtle look. To understand this we wanted to give you some examples of how linings can play a huge role in in the overall effect of the curtain.

When thinking about what fabrics to use at your window and how they will work, often a double track is a great option. This means your lining sits on the back track (closest to the window), and is separate from your face fabric (this sits on the front track, into the room). Often we specify a double track with a coloured lining and a dreamy sheer curtain on the front.

The double track system gives you the option of having your sheer pulled across all day, giving you the privacy that traditional net curtains did so well. To achieve privacy and warmth at night, simply pull the lining fabric closed on the back track. This gives you a relaxed breezy atmosphere for the summer months, while also keeping your room private all year round.

We’ve had some fun matching different sheer fabrics from our Louis Alexander collection with different coloured linings. Check out our combinations below to see what we mean – linings play such an important part in how your curtains can look!
